Francisca Sosa Lopez

b. 1991, Venezuela. London-based. Francisca Sosa López is a multi-disciplinarian artist working with painting, embroidery, sculpture and installation, exploring materiality and processes as a means of communication. Her work is conceptual, detail-oriented and deeply influenced by her home country and the various ongoing crises, especially migration. She has worked in projects with the British Museum (London) and exhibited internationally, including an institutional solo show at Caracas’s La Hacienda la Trinidad. She is the recipient of the 2020 Provost Purchase Prize for UCL East, and Adrien Carruther’s ACME Award 2020/2021; she was nominated for the 2020 Almacantar Studio Award and selected as one of Saatchi Art’s Rising Stars 2020. Francisca’s works are part of the UCL East collection and the CIFO collection. She received a BA in Fine Arts and Art History from the University of Colorado, Boulder USA (2015). She later returned home to Caracas until she moved to London to pursue her MFA in painting from the Slade School of Fine Arts (2020). Amalgama exhibited her work in: 'Textural Codes' at The Koppel Project Piccadilly (2020) and 'Traverse' on Vortic (2021).
